Hurricane Harvey Left Louisianians in Urgent Need of Help

When a hurricane hits, it can cause devastating flood damage to the area of impact. Hurricane Harvey was no exception. The intense winds and the excess water flooded into homes and severely impacted the lives of the individuals who live there. Countless priceless possessions were ruined, and homes were left damp, wet, and uninhabitable. The people of Louisiana needed professional help, and they needed it as swiftly as possible.
 
SERVPRO of Bel Air/ West Hollywood was quick to gather a team and send them to the site of the flood damage in a green RV, which they would live out of while working on remediating the homes. "We traveled to Louisiana to help restore flood damage."
 
As we arrived, our technicians surveyed the area. We witnessed that people had piled some of their possessions outside of their homes, alongside various pieces of their houses, which had been torn loose during the storm. When we realized just how severe the damages were, and after we spoke with the people who lived there, we understood that “we came to restore homes, but we found out we were restoring lives.”
 
The damages left behind by the hurricane were intense, but SERVPRO is always ready for any measure of damage that a storm leaves behind. Once our team of highly skilled technicians got inside to inspect the flood damage, we found that there was still a lot of moisture left inside these houses and we had to act fast. After dividing our teams and outfitting them with the proper advanced equipment for the jobs, we began to remediate.
 
Our IICRC-certified technicians pulled carpeting away from the cement floors underneath and disposed of it, as the material was sopping wet and moldy. SERVPRO began to clean out the homes, a task at a time, starting with the garbage and junk lying around. As time went on, we demolished drywall and took apart cabinets, addressing anything that had been too intensely damaged. Afterward, we were free to use drying mats and dehumidifiers to reduce the moisture in the structure of the home, addressing the problem at its core. From there, the homes could begin to be repaired.
 
Returning various homes to their preloss state was a long journey, but we were proud to be apart of the disaster recovery team that assisted after hurricane Harvey. We're "here to help.” We’re “here to heal."
